About Bob Vaaler

Robert Vaaler  ( d.b.a. Magnetic Pictures )  has been shooting, editing, directing, and producing broadcast, corporate, documentary and new media video programs for more than twenty five years.

His experience includes working with national broadcast and cable television networks,  international news organizations, major corporate clients, new media production centers, national advertising agencies, public service associations, regional arts groups, and in the production of independent film  and documentary projects. He has traveled to Europe, Asia, Latin America, and throughout the United States to tell stories for health care providers, business, public institutions, political entities,  non-profit and arts organizations, and of ordinary individual citizens doing extraordinary things.

Bob has extensive experience in live television production, documentary & location shooting projects ( ENG/EFP ), script writing, editing, executive project oversight and management. He owns state-of-the-art / high-end broadcast production equipment, including the Canon C300 Mark II,  2) Canon C300s, Zeiss Super Speed prime lenses, the Panasonic 3700 P2 VariCam, and all other necessary location production equipment, including tungsten & HMI lights, field audio gear, monitors, Dana dolly, and related support equipment.

Production capabilities include simple one and two-man ENG crews for fast-moving, flexible, and efficient field productions to ‘live’ multiple-camera location productions with six cameras, crews of 25 people, camera cranes, stage lighting & audio support, image magnification, and PowerPoint support.

Working primarily as a Director of Photography,  Bob is experienced shooting in a wide variety of studio  and  on-location situations,  including:

  • single or multi-camera  ‘cine-style’  interviews,  dramatizations,  and events,
  • leading small & efficient  ‘ENG-style’  news  &  documentary production teams,
  •  corporate communications,
  • the unavoidable  ( but sometimes necessary )  last-minute, ‘one-man-band’  shoots,
  • and as a  project producer/director,   coordinating crews of  up to 25  talented and energetic  multi-disciplinary freelancers
